Rod I hope ya don’t mind me hacking into your Website mate, but your departure was NOT on my copy of your proposed “Voyage Plan” and you have left way too early. Not only that, but I know you’re not going to be sending me any more photos or chatting on MSN. I hope you know that while you slipped your mooring lines and sailed quietly away in the middle of the night, that you left a bloody lot of people standing aghast on the shoreline here in total disbelief. I know its too late now to tell you to come about but please know this:
• The Marine forecast for your area is fair winds and a following sea.
• Your 1st Mate (Elaine) will be a very capable Skipper now with plenty of support.
• Seeing as you’re not going to be sending me anymore updates, I had to make up my own page for you. I’ve put it here and everyone is welcome to add to it.

UPDATE 14TH JUNE

Monday morning we were off early (well about 9am that's early these days ). With no wind and the ocean like a mill pond we motored off with the sails up. Screensaver along side of us decided he would use calm time to do a bit of cleaning or maybe it was because he saw Elaine polishing our handrails which ever it was it certainly was a great day. Onto Gloucester we went. This is about 10miles away and with the promise of dinner in a restaurant and a beer at the bar on the beach you could feel the excitement building. The resort encourage travelling yachties to stop and allow you to use there facilities and even allow you take your rubbish ashore to dump. There is a shallow channel that you have to through to get there or you can go around Gloucester and stay in deeper water. Seeing it was dead low tide we decided to go the long way and leave Screensaver to go through the channel and shallows. He even offered to go first but after a short discussion we decided to take the long road, it was a nice day . The only problem was we were nearly there and we got some horrifying news, (No Screensaver hadn't ran aground I think ) something that shook the whole core of the crew, " The bar was closing at 4pm" at this stage it was about 2.30pm and we still had to pick up a mooring. Managed to make it ashore quick smart and to the bar at the ECO Resort. A couple of quick beers for me and a couple of even quicker Madori Splice's for her ladyship the bar closed . Not to be deterred there is one other resort just up the beach. So a quick walk along the beach and yet another Bar even closer to the water. Met a few nice people here , a couple of a CAT that have been sailing for 7 years. And also an Indian couple From Airlie that own an Indian Restaurant there that we walked past a few times. We remember this because of the name. " GET THAT INDIA " thought that was a great name . After a few games of pool and a few more beers & Pina Colada's, back to the boat for dinner with a promise of a fire on the beach, but that didn't happen as I fell Asleep.
Awaking Tuesday to a calm and sunny day we have decided to stay here again today. Tomorrow we will head for Grey Bay in Queen Bay (Confusing I know) that's about 14 mile from here then onto Upstart Bay which is about 25 miles further on from there then Magnetic Island.

UPDATE 12 JUNE 2011
ok Friday 10th we have left Abel Point Marina now, heading over to Woodwark Bay where Yacht Screensaver is. Its only a short trip about 7NM. Motoring all the way as I wanted to make sure all our new electronic charts etc were working, unfortunately there was no autopilot working as it now had to be recalibrated to work with the new system so it was hand steer all the way. Arrived in Woodwark Bay about lunch time and anchored down near the end of the bay. There is a couple large buildings on the shore and the book says they were purpose built for a TV series " Tales Of The South Seas" It ran for 22 episodes and cost 6ok per day to produce , this was based on a Tahitian village and called Matavai, it was built in 1996.
Seems now that it someones private oasis as there are big signs on the beach saying NO ENTRY etc bla bla but not to be detured we ventured in any way only to be greated by 2 guard dogs that were more interested in fetching a stick. But Never the less the signs said " No Exceptions Trespassers Will Be Prosecuted" not really sure what they can do apart form take your name and address , My Name was going to be Ken Pascoe by the way. Any way back to the boat , Rack of lamb for dinner. Most of the night was spent awake, up and down checking alarms as the wind got up to 30knots and alarms were going of here and there saying the anchor was dragging etc. Clearly in the morning we hadn't moved only swung from side to side, so clearly some more homework neads to be done on our new on board systems. As the winds were supposed to stay we decided to stay here another night. We had about 6 dolphins swimming about the boat during the day. Evening again, we have reset our alarms for tonight so hopefully we will be able to get some sleep. I went over to Screensaver for a game of chess with Al and Elaine stayed on board in the warm as it getting colder here.
Sunday morning was a slow start. We decided to head of a bit closer to Gloucester Island. We have ended up anchored in a bay west of Double Bay. very quite. There was what seemed a caravan on the shore and a fire going. Thought this would be nice, fire on the beach , however yet again a privately owned land so we were restricted to just walking along the beach, didn't get an invite to come and sit next to the fire so back out to the boat. Elaine cooked up spaghetti carbonara for dinner and here we are tonight. Tomorrow we are heading to Gloucester Island, thats abot 10-12 nm from here. Its supposed to be nice and there is a bar ashore so it highly likely that we will be going there...

UPDATE 9TH JUNE 2011
Shit long time between the last post but here goes. Had another fire on the beach on Monday 23rd which didn't go as well because of the rain and finding firewood was a bit trickey. Never the less we managed to get it going. Tuesday we sailed from Macona Inlet to Whitehaven Beach. Had to sail through Hook Passage which was a bit intimidating as that is where the 2 tides meet and that causes the water to form a breaking wave effect and it looks like you are sailing into shallow water. however that is not the case. Had a great sail to Whitehaven, arrived there about 2pm and dropped our anchor. Screensaver was already there. Had some lunch and then took the dingy ashore to have a look around. Its a long beach with white sand. Had a swim and it was f*%$en cold but nice all the same. We werent sure wether we would stay the night as it is quite exposed to the elements but as it turned out we decided that we would stay on anchor for the night. Very calm night which was suprising as you are open to the ocean.
Sun up again early for Wednesday, we went ashore for another walk then back to the boat for lunch before heading to Tongue Bay for the night. It was a nice sail and the sun was shining so we headed to shore there for the walk up to the lookout (630m up) for a magnificent view of Whitehaven Beach and surrounds. Over to Screensaver for farewell drinks for Missy who decided to get off at Airlie Beach.
Thursday morning Screensaver was heading off back to Abel Point Marina to drop of its crew (Missy) as she has decided to get off so we decided to follow them back half way and spend the night at Macona again . After anchoring 3 times and dragging towards the reef we decided to move on to Nara Inlet before it got dark. Not sure why we couldn't get a good hold but anyway anchored well at Nara quite a way down this time. So Thursday night was spent in very calm waters but a chilly evening.
Friday we headed for Cid Harbour until our water in Sail Drive Seal Alarm went off. Trickey as we had no idea what was going on. So we shut the motor off and consulted our manuals. Now sailing towards Abel Point Marina as thats where the wind was taking us we made a few phone calls and decided that we needed to get things checked out so proceeded to sail direct to the marina in case there was any major probs. Elaine got on the Phone as she wont talk on the VHF to see if we could get a berth at the marina as we had motor problems and all was good. Started the motor again about half a mile out and no alarm. Berthed safely.
Ok had the Mechanic come down and have a look and all was good, and also no charge this time. So now we are in the Marina and decided that we would stay here to sort out some other issues that we have. These include new navigation screens and software etc etc . Its now 2 weeks later and we are finally sorted. Today is Thursday 9th June tomorrow morning we are leaving heading North. We have stocked up on supplies and will head to Magnetic Island. Wont leave the next post so long this time for all you readers haha.

UPDATE 23 MAY
Awakening on Saturday 7 May at Stonehaven Anchorage to rain once again. Not a great deal to do here after a while as we have been here before but it is a good place to keep out of the weather.
A lazy day was had with T-bone steak and Salad for dinner.
Sunday morning we headed for Nara Inlet. This inlet is about 2.5 miles long and is surrounded by mountains and is a good protector from all winds. Water here was very calm. We launch the dingy and went over to shore where there is walking track consisting of stairs carved out of stone and nearly 45 degrees straight up. All this led to a lookout and the promise of an aboriginal cave full of paintings craved into the rock. The lookout was good, timber decks and stainless handrails. The cave itself also had a handrail across the front of it, but the excitmenet that had given us the strength to carry on up the steep track earlier was soon squashed only to find there were 2 maybe 3 handprints barley visable. There was however an information pole where you could press a button on various different aboriginal subjects and listen to some elder rabbit on about eating grubs or some shit like that. Anyway back down the stairs and feeling culturaly fullfilled we hopped back in the dingy and headed down stream a bit further this time with the promise of a flowing waterfall
and a lap pool that had formed at the bottom in the rocks. Once again our disappointment didn't disappoint. A trickle of water from the so called waterfall and an area at the bottom that was full of jaggared rock and bird shit. Somehow I think my profanities on the way up the stairs to the cave might have disturbed the souls of the sleeping elders and they decided to stop the flow of water to the fall and make the lap pool impossible to enter, this could be the only explanation because in the brouchers it was completely different. Never mind back to the boat as the rain starts to fall again and tonight its Prawn Fettucinni from the galley.
Monday was again spent in Nara doing some chores on the boat and trying to stay out of the rain.
Tuseday morning we headed to Able Point Marina to restock etc. Our time at the marina was spent doing the usual, washing , refueling, food shopping etc. This time we also had the engine serviced, went out to Hoggs Breath Cafe for my birthday Wednesday night.
Thursday we headed off from the Marina again and decided to go back to Nara for one night as thats where the wind was taking us. The sail was a good sail and the seas were calm. Arriving at Nara about 3pm we realxed for a while prepared our dinner, lamb chops, lemon potatoes and veg, then turned in for an early night.
Friday we were up early and headed to Sawmill Bay to do a bit of exploring in the dingy in hope of seeing a Dugong as this was a breeding area, unfortunately they were no where to be seen. I pondered if the aboriginal elders had put a curse on me. Anyway we waited for Screensaver to turn up as they were still near the marina getting some final mechanical work done. They arrived about 8pm. The next morning we all headed over to Long Island Resort. Anchoring just of the beach we headed ashore for some bar therapy. Sitting in the resort for a few hours watching the sunset over the mountains behind our yachts was lovely. Earlier the resort sport mangager had tried to get us to play a game of beach volley ball with the guests , but we were happy realxing with our drinks. As the wind had dropped we decided to stay the night on anchor where we were. A terrible night was had here as the winds picked up and the anchor chain dragged across the coral which intern eminated throughout the boat even with the snubber on. Up and down all night checking we hadn't moved. At about 4.30am we decided to stay up and wait for the sun to come up. The winds today were going to be high along with the seas , we decided to leave about 6.30am and head for Nara to hide out while the crap weather passed. Nara ia about 15 mile from here and it felt like 25 miles. Terrible seas and wind. Finally arrive and got a good anchor spot. Basicall the next 5 nights were spent here as the weather was shit and couldnt go anywhere. we had booked back into the marina on Friday 20th so we left early to get there. Thankfully the seas had died down and crossing the whitsunday passage was pleasent. It was good to move on even if it was to the marina as 5 days in Nara is enough to send you batty.
The usuall chores were done once again a the Marina. 2 nights out for dinner was good. Stocked up on enough supplies for 2 weeks. Left the marina and sailed to Macona inlet where we caught up with screensaver . Afew small beachs here. We decided to go ashore with a few drinks and have a beach fire and tell some stories. Higly illegal to have a fire in a national park but we thought what the hell.
Today Monday the rain is here again. We have about 4 more places we want to see in the Whitsundays then we will move on up the coast towards Townsville.

UPDATE 6 MAY 2010
Monday morning we move just around the corner but still in Stonehaven just got a bouy a little bit closer to the reef, and next to Screensaver. Did some snorkeling off the dingy and went to shore to check out the sunset.
Tuesday morning we headed off to Langford Island for the morning and went ashore where we snorkled along the waters edge for an hour or so. Back to the boat had a bit of lunch and then headed off again this time to Blue Pearl Bay where we were hopeing to get a mooring for the night. Weather at this point still calm so we mortored around which took us about an hour, unfortunately there was no room there so we decided to go back to Langford and pick up a mooring there again for the night. We got a mooring fine, however the tide was quite low and the mooring line ended up wrapped around the keel. I dived down to have a look but I couldnt budge it. Back on board we made the decision to try and take the line off the front of the boat and walk down the side in the hope that it would unhook itself from the keel and we would not drift onto the nearby coral. All was go the line untangled itself so we let it go and decided to head back to Stonehaven for the night as the moorings there are better. Elaine cooked Lamb ribs and salad for dinner and an early night was had.
Wednesday we headed of back to Blue Pearl Bay in the hope of getting a mooring. We can't really anchor there as it is 18 meters deep which means we really need to put out about 70 meters of anchor chain and we only have 50. As luck would have it someone was leaving as we got there so we picked up the mooring and settled in. Screensaver also got one a little bit later so all was good. We ended up feeding some fish of the back of the boat before we went to shore. They were quite large about 400mm and flat like a plate. Went to shore and had a good snorkle along the shore here where we saw lots of fish, this is the best place we have been to so far. Back to the boat for afternoon tea, we noticed our fish friends, Herman and Morticia (Elaine gave them names) we still hanging around so we gave them another feed. Evening drinks were had on Screensaver then back to our boat for San Choy Bow.
Thursday morning we headed off around 9.30 am to a place called Butterfly Bay. Once around the head we encounted 25-30knot winds and 2.5 meter swell which made the next hour or so interesting to say the least. We only put up our Jib. After entering Butterfly Bay the winds eased and the swell basically disappeared. Navagateing into Butterfly was a bit slow as there is a few reefs so you cant go straight in, its sort of like a dog leg. There was only two boats in here and there was 7 spare moorings so we had our pick. After securing the boat on a mooring we had only sat down for a minute when who should pop its head up a turtle, now named Charlie (That was my name this time). There had been some talk over the VHF about a few Irukandji (Tiny jelly fish that kill you) about so without any stiger suits we decided that a dingy ride to shore and a stroll along the beach was a better option. Back from the shore there were several dozen pineapple trees with fruit on them so we took one with us ( the fruit not the tree). Weather was nice and warm a bit of a breeze but still lovely. The bay slowly filled up with charter boats as everyone settled in for the evening to get out of the wind. The evening was a quite one with Pork steak and potato bake for dinner, finished with a Baileys coffee and ice cream for desert.
Friday morning we were up early and heading back to StoneHaven as we needed to get some phone coverage to make some calls. Leaving Screensaver there head headed back navagating between Heyman and Hook island where half the markers are missing. Picking up a mooring we have settled in here for the rest of the day and night. The weather is rainy and windy today, so we are glad to be on a mooring and not on anchor.

UPDATE 1ST MAY 2011
Left Cid Harbour on Friday morning after having a struggle to get the anchor up as it was well buried after 5 nights of 25 knot winds . Had to cross the Whitsunday passage between Hayman and Molle islands to get to Airlie. Winds were about 30 knots and 3 meter swells, so not very pleasant. Arriving at Airlie to Able Point Marina we were given our berth number and thank god the winds died as entering the Marina. Yacht Screensaver was already there as they left after us but are much more adventurous than we are in the bigger winds and flew past us doing 10.8 knots of boat speed as we were doing the driving miss daisy option which was under motor and a little headsail doing roughly 5 knots.
A nice and cosy berth and plenty of room. Parked safely once again so thats always a good thing. So only 2 nights here, the price was $85 a night which is outragous but what do you do. However Alan from Screensaver had sent us an email telling us that he had secured us and himself a 50% discount for the 2 nights as a one off, god love that man. So that enabled us to go out for a dinner and not kill our budget. A great night sleep after 5 nights of sleeping with an ear on alert and one eye open in the winds, rain and an anchor alarm that is only a visual not audible. (Thanks for that Simrad)
Only 48 hours here so we had little time for site seeing and most of time had to be spent washing, food shopping, washing the boat etc . Food shopping is fun as it starts with a 2.5km walk past the shopping centre hidden by trees then to have to jump over the school fence across a playing field and over another fence through a creek, over the main road to the closest Coles then the shopping part starts, then finding a cab that will take us back and not get the shits because of all the bags, beer etc. Then once back at the marina finding a trolley to laod all our shopping in then load it all onto the boat, " I,m tired just writing this. Elaine did about 8 loads of washing which cost us about $80 and I think drove here crazy sitting in the Laundry for about 9 hours in total. Well she can't complain she doesn't get any "ME" time how much space does she need!!!!!.
Went to the marina Italian restaurant on the Friday night for dinner to have a long awaited pizza, and on the Saturday night to the one and only Chinese restaurant. Since we havn't been out to dinner for a while so it was worth it. We hadn't had a pizza since we left Sydney 7 months ago so it was a long awaited treat.
Final bits and pieces included a swap and go gas bottle, some new sailing shoes for Elaine (real ones this time but still HOT PINK) some dive weights for me as the rocks I had collected weren't doing the job as I couldn't find boulders to fit in my pockets, and a small anchor for the Tender for when we go to the beach as we were sick of finding rocks to tie it to.
Sunday morning we untied from our Marina Berth and cruised out of Able Point Marina and headed for Stonehaven Anchorage where the snorkelling is supposed to be good and there is supposed to some moorings to pick up so we won't have to anchor. About 3hrs later we found a vacant mooring and picked that up which will ensure us of a good nights sleep.
We launched the dingy and headed of to the shore having to navigate through all the coral shallows we ended up rowing half the way. Met a Couple on the beach who were off a yacht called My Way . Terry and Rhonda from Townsville. They 2 are cruising around with no plan attached.
So for now we are to cruise around the Whitsuday Islands for the next 10 to 14 days before heading back to Airlie Beach for more provisions. Hopefully we will do some snorkelling here tomorrow and have a lazy day, "as if most of our days at the moment aren't much the same"

UPDATE 25/04/2011
All books say you are not allowed onto the beach area at the Resort at Brampton, as it turns out the resort is closed so we did. We took the dingy ashore and decided we would put it on the beach in front of the resort, that wasn't before running into some rocks and nearley tossing the three of us out of it. (not having much luck with the running aground in any vessel lately). Screensavers crew decided to go on their usual mountain hike so we decided to walk up to the resort. The place is all closed down. There were a few staff there that seemed to be packing stuff up. Signs all along the beach that said " NO ENTRY PRIVATE PROPERTY " We walked past the room that was on the beach that we stayed at 18 months ago . Everything looks very run down, the pools are still full of water but full of debry and very green.
The tide was out so we decided to walk out from the resort as there is a very big sand bar there. We came across a reef shark half in the water and half out, it was about 1.5 meters long , the water was about 300mm deep so I decided I would get close and take some photos and spotted a second shark waiting for it's mate. On the way back in the dingy we pulled up at the wharf that the guests used to arrive on and couldnt believe the amount of fish that were hanging about. That night Screensaver came over and rafted up to us and we had dinner and planned our departure for the next day.
Leaving Brampton on Saturday morning we headed for Lindeman Island at 10 am . The weather was yet again a South East so it was a good sailing day. Arriving at Lindeman at about 3.30pm the weather was a bit blowy but we managed to get a good anchorage at Plantation Bay which was about 1 mile from the resort. Our hope was to go to the resort by dingy and have a cocktail and a beer in the bar as you are allowed to go ashore there between 11am and 6pm unfortunately the resort is off limits to Grotty Yachties during school holidays so that put an end to that.
As Craig had booked a flight From Hamilton Island we thought we would see if he could catch a ferry from Lindeman to Hamilton. In the Ferry it is only 30mins. Thing is they wanted $150 for that so we decided we would take our chances and head there. Had a good nights sleep here dispite the wind conditions, set all the alarms up in case we drifted but all was good.
Sunday morning we were up early and off heading to Hamilton. Very swelly and windy on the way there, my thoughts were I did not want to go into ther marina there in this weather as I had not been in there before. I opted to call up the marina on VHF and see if they had any swing moorings avaliable . There we plenty of vacant moorings for $17 an hour so we picked up one on those. (Note : Yachts with tall masts like ours are to stay at least 8oo meters away from the end of the Airport runway not cross in front of it ROD). Only thing was the dingy ride was about a mile in crappy weather. Leaving Elaine on the boat, Craig and I headed for the marina with his luggage. By the time we got there we were drenched and Craig had to get a new set of dirty close out for his flight home. While he was changing I ran around to the only 2 shops to try and get some hot cross buns and an Easter egg for Elaine as I had forgotten to get one. All sold out so had to settle for chocolate coated coffee beans. Leaving Craig to his own devices to get to the airport I jumped back in the dingy and dodged the harbor traffic to get back to Nemetona.
Now just the 2 of us on the boat. Screensaver had gone into the marina to get some dingy fuel and had left to head up the passage. We had a cup of tea untied the boat from the swing mooring and sneaked of without paying our $17 dollars. It was ok because they had Craigs phone number, and it wasn't until we had left that we read that just in front of the mooring there were 2 empty public ones that were vacant and free of charge.
We now headed for Cid Harbour it is about 1pm and its about a 2.5hr sail. We wanted to get there and find a place out of the wind as much as possible as there is a forecast 30knots of wind for the next few days. We followed Screensavers track on our plotter and found a place to anchor. There are shit loads of boats in this area as its Easter and all the Charter boats are out. The water here is very clean and clear we have seen a few turtles in our travells today as well.
We will stay around here for a few days and wait for the wind to die down . It is forecast until Wednesday or Thursday. Then we will more than likely head to Airlie Beach Marina to get a berth in the for a couple of nights and sort out some supplies.
Over all we are going well , My hair dying, and nail painting skills are improving by the day, well thats what I say I'm not sure that Elaine agrees with me as she is looking forward to a good hairdresser and a manacurist when we get to shore.
Leaving Keppel after a shit nights sleep on anchor we headed for Percy Islands which should have been about a 16 hrs trip, getting us there about midnight. The sail was good with favourable winds until we we got close to Percy then the currents got us and we slowed up to about 2-3 knots of speed over ground. We didn't end up arriving to about 4am, anchoring in the dark is always a bit testing but lucky we had good moon. All safely anchored time for an early morning bourbon and then of to sleepy sleep land after another very long day in the Ocean.
Awakening the next morning or about 3 hrs after we had just closed our eyes we were still anchored in the same spot and had a new island to explore. There is a A frame hut on the beach here where sailors have left some sort of memorabilia nailed to the hut to register there date of visit. There are signs that date back 50 years. There is a barbacue there that visiting sailors use, along with mozzy coils etc etc that people leave as donations when they leave. This hut is kept neatley by a lone caretaker who lives on the top of the island about 4 miles away, and rumour has it that She has spowned 3 monkey like humans who roam wildley searching the island for small children who have lost there way so they can feed on there brains. Na just kidden about that bit. We did however meet the cartaker and he seemed like a nice bloke and very hospitable.
Sunday night we spent on the beach with Yacht Screensavers crew having a BBQ and a few beers relaxing and looking at the sunset . Monday we decided to go for a walk up the mountain as we were told that you could get Phone reception. What was supposed to a leisurly stroll ended up a 4 km up hill hike , so at the 3km point our phones cut in and Elaine and I decided to turn back and head back down to base camp, while the others continued up to the homestead.
The swell had risen up quite a bit so getting back into the dingy in the beach swell ended up in tears and very wet. Once safely back onto the boat a very rolly night was had by all. Next morning we prepared the boat early for departure to Mackay as we needed to move on to get away from the swell. The we were up at 5.30 am and waiting for the weather report from Screensaver as our comunications were limited. The weather not looking the best we decided it would have to be better than where we were so we headed off for Mackay . It ended up being a fantastic day of sailing. 10 hours later at 5pm we pulled into Mackay harbour and into a Marina berth all safe and sound. Once helping Screensaver in we headed for the bar where we had pizza and Craig had a steak, a few cold beers we were looking for our bed and a calm night sleep.
Wednesday was spent doing washing, food shopping and cleaning the boat as we are only going to spend 2 nights here. I stayed on the boat claening and Elaine and Craig went food shooping. Craig came back with the food and no Elaine. Elaine didnt seem to make back from shopping until about 630pm as her and Missey ( Screensavers crew ) decided that some girl time was in order.
Thursday morning Elaine prepaired salad rolls for lunch so it would be easier to have on our journey. After filling up with fuel we left the marina about 12 pm and headed for Brampton Island . This leg should be about 4 hrs. The weather is being very kind to us at the moment and the sail to Brampton was another enjoyable ride. We arrived on the Northern side of Brampton ( near the resort ) about 3.30 and anchoured in a calm bay . Its very quite here so Craig and myself did a bit of fishing and I also took Elaines toe nail polish at the same time as I have to learn to that. Screensaver popped over for for a couple of sunset drinks. Dinner consisted of potatoe bake and tbone steaks. Another calm night was had.
From here our plans are we have to be at Hamilton Island by Sunday morning because Craig has a flight home at 2pm. Hamilton is on about 30 mile from here so we will probably spend the next couple of days exploring som islands

Tide up safely in a pen at The Great Sandy Straits Marina we did some chores, cleaning of the boat and some much needed washing. Nice enough Marina although the entry is quite small and a bit intimidating. There are a few restaurants here and a club. We decided to stay for 4 nights here as the weather is a bit shit. Once we had done all our chores, washing, shopping etc etc we left the marina and sailed back to Kingfisher Bay to anchor for the night, not before I put my navigating skills to the test again and kissed the ground half way back there trying to tack to far. All was good and made it to our anchoring spot. After setting the anchor we headed to shore for a couple of cocktails at the bar and then back to boat for dinner. After finishing the dishes we jumped in the dingy and headed over to yacht Screensaver for a game of cards and a few laughs, it was dark so finding Screensaver wasn't easy as it's anchor light is crappy.
Next morning we lifted anchor about 8.30 am and headed to Bunderberg. Morning started out with about 10 knots of breeze so we were motor sailing to Hervey Bay. Once passing Hervey Bay the motor was turned off and the breeze had picked up to about 18 knots so we were sailing at about 8 knots. The water is quite shallow around the Hervey Bay area so it can be a bit testy. The breeze soon turned into wind with a wind warning issued by VMR Hervey Bay. Gusting at 35 knots we were doing 9 - 10 knots for the last 5 hours of the trip. The swell was about 4 meters when arriving at the lead lines for Bundaberg about 5pm . The only way to pull the sail down was to turn around back into the wind which was a challenge in its self. Once the sail was down we got into the shipping channel and struggled to keep the boat straight on the lead lines because of the swell and wind. The closer we got to the harbor the more the swell died so we were getting a bit excited about the boat leveling out. After radioing in to Bundy Marina to get out pen number we were even more excited to know that our good friend who tracks all our movements from Budy Shore Station Ken Pascoe was waiting on the dock ready to grab our ropes as we came in, so that in itself installed a great comfort for us as the wind was still up. Parking safely and a few hugs all round we waited for Yacht Screensaver to come in as they were about 30 mins behind. Once all tide up we headed to the Bar at the marina for a well earned beer and pizza . It was early to bed tonight ( Sunday ) as we were tired little sailors as a big day was had by all.
We are in Bunderberg for about 9 nights as our friend Craig from Sydney is going to join us on Sunday 10th for 2 weeks and sail up the coast with us. Bundy Port Marina is about 20klms from town and in the middle of no where really. Lucky for us Ken lives in Bundy and was there every day with his car and hospitality to ferry us to and from town to do as we please. Tuesday night we all went to Ken's house for dinner . His partner Sherry made us feel at home and prepared a lovely meal. Good music food and company made the night a memorable one.
Yacht Screensaver pulled out of Bundy on Sunday morning about 3am . We hired a car went to do some last minute food shopping before heading to the airport to pick up Craig. Mental note coles and woolworths are not open on a Sunday in Bundy so of to the airport to wait for Craig.
Monday was spent food shopping and a visit to the Bundaberg Rum factory then back to the boat by 1am as the hire car had to be back at the Marina by then. Spent the arvo prepareing the boat to leave early next morning. Had a last arvo lunch at the Marina bar and our friend Ken turned up to wish us goodbye which was great.
Tuesday up at 5am . Weather calm, untied the boat at 5.30am and motored out of Bundaberg harbor up the channel. You need to go about 2 miles out before turning to the north (thats left for land lovers) because it is shallow so once doing that we hoisted the sails and headed for Pancake Creek. One settled and sailing Elaine decide it was time for her to retire to the front cabin for some shut eye as she hasnt been up this early for quite some time. So after she made us a cupa of she went to zzzzzzz.
Arrival at Pancake Creek was estimated at around 1600hrs ( thats 4pm for land lovers ) . The day was great small seas , a bit more wind would have been nice but that was fine. Arrived at the entrance of Pancake around 4 only to find the markers a tad confusing. We could see yachts inside and all looked fine so we proceeded in at a very slow pace. Unfortuately I decided that the chats I had were wrong so I took a different path and low and behold yep you guessed it we ran around. Unlike the other 4 or 5 times I have done so, this time I did a real good job of it so much so we were stuck and it was high tide. So basiacally it was all bad from here, there was no more tide to lift us of so we prepared our selfs for the worst and that was as the picture shows a very long night. Luckily the next high tide which was due at 4am was a higher tide than this one so our chances of getting of were in our favour. So we sat and waited.
A very uncomfortable 10 hours was had by all. With offers of help from locals and Screensaver who was only 2 hours away there was not much anyone could do as we had to just tuff it out. the picture says it all. 2am and the tide was getting there so we decided to give it a go but only moved a meter or so. 3am and another try and away we go finally off and free in the dark. Once clear of Pancake we decided that Gladston was too busy for us to stop in because of all the ships and the darkness so a decision was made to head straight to Great Keppel Island , approx 65 nautical Miles or for us about 11 hrs.
The journey was a long one as we had been up all night but the weather was kind to us and it was smooth sailing all the way. We arrived at Keppel about 2.30 in the afternoon and Anchoured up in about 3.5 meters of water ( Making sure to check the tide this time) just outside the now closed down Resort. Had a couple of drinks in the afternoon sun and then retired early fo a well earned sleep.
Thursday was spent exploring some of the Island and swimming in the ocean where we saw a big turtle. The water here is lovely and clear and the sands on the beach are very white and smooth like powder. I put the dive tank on and went for a scuba under the boat to check for any damage from the other night. All was good.
We will stay here now till Saturday where our plan is to sail to the Percy Islands.

Staurday 26th we left Garry's Anchorage at 1pm, the idea being we would be at the shallowest point of the Sandy Straits at high tide giving us the best chance of getting through. Following the lead lines on our chart the trip was going to be a slow one so Elaine made a carrot cake for afternoon tea to pass the time. Once getting to the half way point just past a place called Boonlye Point we got a bit confused with the port markers as they were different to what was on our charts. After and executive decision we decided to follow our chart and ignore the marker. We had been advised by Coast Guard Sandy Straits that the sand levels had shifted alot due to all the floods. Anyway following our chart wasn't the best idea as we ran aground and came to an abrupt stop. The tide still had about 15 mins to go to the top of the tide so we probably had about 30mins to get off before we would have been stuck for the night. Moving the boom as far out as we could to the Starboard and both getting on that side as well, trying to lean the boat over as much as we could we managed to motor off and finally get into some deeper water.
We pulled up at a place called South White Cliffs. The water here wasnt the best looking so there was no swimming happening. We launched the dingy and headed over to the beach. Picked up Maria (a crew member of Screensaver) on the way. The beach was a muddy sand so wasn't the best, and like Garry's the mozzies were out. Elaine already covered in bites wasn't about to hang around to get another round of bites so we headed back. Stopped at Screensaver had a drink and then headed back to Nemetona for some chicken Kiev for dinner.
We woke Sunday morning to rain and wind, basically just shitty weather. Decided to up anchor and head to Kingfisher Bay Resort which is about 10 NM in the hoping we would be able to anchor of the beach and go ashore. Once anchored up we jumped into the dingy and headed ashore. To our delite there was a swimming pool, BAR and some shops. We relaxed in the Bar, I had a beer and Elaine had cocktail of the day called "Wild Dingo". We relaxed there for a while and used there facilities and headed on back to the boat.
Monday was spent swimming in the resorts pool and generally just relaxing. Had breakfast at the cafe on the island and Elaine booked in for a much needed wax job. I sat on the jetty and met some local characters whiles indulging in a few cold ones from the Jetty bar . The crew of Screensaver had gone on a 24km bush walk which we decided to give a miss. We looked at hiring a 4 wheel drive but the cost of that certainly wasn't in our budget.
There has been very little sun out over the past few days so we are starting to struggle a little bit for power on the boat because the solar panels aren't really contributing anything. It was good to be able to spend some time ashore. Today we will be heading for Great Sandy Straits Marina at Hervey Bay for a few days to do some chores, washing etc before heading out to anchor up again for a few days before heading to Bunderberg.

Friday morning we pulled up anchor at Elbow Point and headed towards Garry's Anchorage. As the inside of the straights is shallow we can only travel a short distance each time when the tide is at its highest.
No wind and very calm we motored about 10 miles and put the anchor out at about 1pm. We decided we would take the dingy down and head over to the beach , (Fraser Island). Once there we went for a bush walk to get of the boat for a while. This is a lovely place, but the bloody mozzies and sand flys drive you fricken mad.
Swimming isnt really on the cards here, one the the reason is the water is quite brown in colour and has alot of debris in it from the floods, and the other is the warning signs about the presence of crocodiles. We have also seen a couple of dingos on the beach.
The sunset was lovely as we sat on the back deck and ate our roast rack of lamb and roast vegies that Elaine cooked in the oven. (Very nice). Well after a game of charades on the back deck of Screensaver we retired for the night after another action packed day.
Saturday we are heading further up river to Ceratodus to find a spot for the night.

Well its been a while we know. Finally have set of from Southport.
Left Southport on Sunday afternoon 20th March and headed up the river a mile or so to an anchorage known as Bum's Bay for an easy get away.
We set sail for Mooloolaba at 2am Monday morning with our friends in there boat Screensaver.
The Weather was calm for the seaway exit which was good, only about 10 knots of breeze so we had to motor sail. Elaine was sick after about 10mins so that wasn't very good. While putting up the main sheet the electric winch got stuck on so it was panic stations for about 30 seconds trying to get the rope of the winch so it didn't pull the sail off. Water temp was 27.4 degrees. As Elaine was sick for most of the day I thought I would sit her on the back deck and give her hair a wash as we motor sailed along , thought this might help her feel a bit better, unfortunately this didn't stop the vomit. Arrived at Mooloolaba harbour at about 5.15pm that evening, after motoring up the harbour to an anchoring spot we found but it was to shallow for us so we ended up at the Marina.
Tuesday was spent doing a little bit of shopping and had a swim on the beach. Also I had some maintenance to do with a few things on the boat that had played up the day before. We had a couple of beers on the back of Screensaver about 5.30pm and decided that we would go out for some cheap eats . Not realizeing that everything in Mooloolaba closes at 7.30pm by the time we had got ready and walked to 5 different restaurants everything was closed. So back to the boat for a home cooked pizza. Walking back through the marina carpark there are 2 big waste bins used by boaties, staff etc, it was dark but there were carpark lights, there were alot of noises coming out from around that area, as we walked by there were dozens of RATS scourring up and over the fences out of the bins, I couldn't believe how many there were.
Wednesday morning were we up early and checked out of the Marina at 8am. Today we are heading for Wide Bay near Fraser Island. The day is perfect with 30.5 degree crystal blue water. We had plenty of time to kill so we sat on the back duck board most of the way and cooled down. Rod did a bit of fishing and caught himself a 2ft Yellow Fin Tuna which he threw back after a photo shoot! It would have been great for dinner but neither of us wanted to clean it and it was way to big for 2 so it would have been wasted. Our plan today is to get to Wide Bay (About 55 miles) and anchor there over night as to get into Tin Can Bay / Fraser Island you have to cross the Wide Bay Bar and the best time to do this is at high tide. Our arrival (5pm) would have been at the wrong time so anchoring up for the night at Double Island Point seemed to be a good idea as the winds were slight and the swell was small. After anchoring we went for a swim had a drink, cooked some dinner, watch some dolphins play around the boat and then decided to retire for the night . Well once the tide changes so did the swell. It was the worst night we have ever had on anchor. The boat rolled side to side all night with stuff flying about in cupboards. We where up and down moving things and changing sleeping quarters inside and outside. The moon was at it's brightest and the sky full of stars so way to much light to sleep outside. This lasted till about 3.30am when we could finally get a bit of sleep.
Thursday moring we were up again early as we had to get to the entry of the Wide Bay Bar in time for the top of the tide. Had some brecky and we were off about 8.30am. Only a short distance of about 10 miles to the Bar entrance so we took our time as the weather today is lovely with a small amount of wind. We passed through a school of fish and saw 3 shark having a bit of a feeding frenzy. Mental note don't swim here! Once we got to the Bar entrance we checked our position and decided to let Screensaver go first as he has done it before and we would follow. The weather was in our favour and the crossing was an easy one which was great for us as some of the stories of bad crossing had got stuck in our heads. We headed up the river and are now anchored of the western side of Fraser Island at a place called Elbow Point rafted up with Screensaver. Will relax here for today and head of to Hervey Bay in the morning up the Great Sandy Straight.
